The hide command allows you to hide yourself or objects that are in the room. If you type hide by itself, you will attempt to hide in the shadows to prevent other players or monsters from seeing you in the room. You can also attempt to hide any object that is sitting on the room's floor, and if you are successful the object will not be visible to anyone who does not search for it. Rangers, thieves and assassins hide best. Be aware that hiding takes time. If you successfully hide you will not be in a position to attack or cast spells for a second or so. At first it sounds bad but remember as you are hidden you will not be attacked so it becomes a moment of preparation. If you are in a room fighting a creature it will keep you too busy to hide, if you need to hide you will have to flee the room first. Another consideration is encumbrance, the heavier the kit you have equipped, the harder it is to hide.

You attempt to hide the knife.
